A Friend of Duty

A Friend of Duty
Your relations with Duty have improved. If you find yourself in a pickle, Duty fighters will try to help you. Azot, the technician who favors Duty, has offered you a discount. Your relations with Freedom have deteriorated. Hawaiian, the trader who favors Freedom, will now charge you more for his goods.
There are a number of requirements for this achievement; you must:
  • Give Morgan's PDA to Shulga
  • Give General Tachenko's PDA to Shulga
  • Complete In search of Magpie by telling Shulga about Magpie
  • Convince Shulga to let Strider and his men join Duty
As the description states, Hawaiian isn't too pleased with your achievement and will increase his prices by 10%; however, he also opens up his inventory selling a much larger variety of weapons, armor and ammunition; the selection is based on what the Duty faction prefers such as weapons and ammunition used in Warsaw Pact countries. Refer to the Traders, Inventory & Prices to see which new items become available - they will be marked with a dark yellow or bright red background.

The achievement description mentions 'Azot' the technician - this is obviously Nitro; I guess GSC just forgot to change the name during the english translation.

A Friend of Freedom

A Friend of Freedom
Your relations with Freedom have improved. If you find yourself in a pickle, Freedom fighters will try to help you. Hawaiian, the trader who favors Freedom, has offered you a discount. Your relations with Duty have deteriorated. Azot, the technician who favors Duty, will now charge you more for his services.
Notes
There are a number of requirements for this achievement; you must:
  • Give Morgan's PDA to Loki
  • Give General Tachenko's PDA to Loki
  • Complete In search of Magpie by telling Loki about Magpie
  • Convince Loki to let Strider and his men join Freedom
With this achievement, Hawaiian will give you a 20% discount, and he will have a wider selection of weapons, armor and ammunition available that is favored by the Freedom faction - this includes many weapons and ammunition used by NATO countries; refer to the Traders, Inventory & Prices page and look for items sold by Hawaiian with a dark yellow or bright blue background.

This achievement also mentions 'Azot' the technician, again referring to Nitro - another miss in the english translation.

A Friend of Stalkers

A Friend of Stalkers
Your relations with stalkers have improved. If you find yourself in a pickle, stalkers will try to help you. Stalker medics have agreed to sell you medical supplies at cost price.
This achievement has the following requirements; you must:
  • Complete The hit by telling Beard about the bandits plans and eliminating them during the mission
  • Complete Transaction for Beard
  • Complete Hunting the chimera for Gonta, not forgetting to inform Trapper about your success
  • Complete In search of Magpie by telling Gonta about him
  • Complete Hostage for Grizzly
  • Complete Debts for Vano
With this perk, both Tremor and Bonesetter will give you a discount on all items they carry; the discount seems to vary depending on the type of item, but it's in the 15-30% range.
A Keeper of Secrets

A Keeper of Secrets
After getting the notes, Strelok found a new reason to live on and make it to his objective, whatever the cost.
Notes
Locate the three stashes from the Strelok faction and give the three documents (Note to Fang, Note to Ghost and Note to Strelok) to Strelok when you meet him in Pripyat. I believe the achievement means that Strelok will have an improved constitution during the evacuation sequence in Pripyat, adding to the probability of his survival, at the end of the main storyline. When you give the three documents to Strelok he'll give you three scientific medkits along with both a Bubble artifact and a Flame artifact in return.
A Man of Balance

A Man of Balance
Stalkers at Yanov value a balance of power between Duty and Freedom, which is why both the technician and the trader have given you discounts now.
You'll earn this achievement by selling Morgan's PDA and General Tachenko's PDA to Owl, and complete the In search of Magpie mission by telling Gonta of his whereabouts. The achievement means that both Owl and Hawaiian will give you a 15% discount on all items, and Nitro a 18.75% discount on modifications and repairs.
A Wealthy Client

A Wealthy Client
Traders offer you more rare and expensive goods.
Notes
You receive this achievement once you acquire 100,000 RU - that's one hundred thousand rubles. While I haven't noticed a significant amount of new items at traders, I believe this may mean that eg. Owl will start to sell the Veles Detector.
Artifact Hunter

Artifact Hunter
Stalkers think more of you now. Bandits will try to hunt you down whenever you venture out into the Zone.
Find one of each artifact to earn this achievement. Although the description says otherwise, I can't say I've seen many bandits trying to hunt me down... perhaps I just need to get out more often.
Boss

Boss
You have earned the respect of bandits. Owl the trader has given you a discount out of fear that he may be your next victim. As agreed, Beard will now pay you a cut of his proceeds.
Notes
You are awarded this achievement if you go through with The hit and Transaction, helping the bandits in both; then, as part of Tempting business, decide to talk to Sultan and help him run Beard out of business in Shady business, again aiding the bandits.

You'll get two perks - you can pick up money from Beard once a day, somewhere between 500-2,000 RU per visit I believe, and Owl will have a much wider range of equipment for sale. The first perk is actually a result of the mission Shady business, although the description coming with the achievement could lead you to believe it's a bonus from the achievement; I guess this doesn't matter as once you get the achievement you'll have completed Shady business anyway.

Courier of Justice

Courier of Justice
Stalkers decided to give Magpie's loot, which he had acquired through lies and deceit, to someone more worthy. They put his stuff in your personal box at Yanov.
This achievement is attained once you complete the mission In search of Magpie, that you can pick up from Gonta. It doesn't matter how you complete the mission - ie. you can tell either Gonta, Shulga or Loki about Magpie and you'll earn this achievement. Although the description indicates that you get Magpies loot, I've never seen it happen; I've even tried to clean out my personal box in Yanov Station before completing the mission, but alas - nothing.
Detective

Detective
Stalkers think more of you now. As a sign of respect, stalkers have taken to leaving medical supplies in your personal box at the Skadovsk.
Notes
This achievement is acquired once you complete both parts of the mission Find the missing hunter that can be picked up from Grouse on board the Skadovsk. It comes with a perk which means that the stalkers on the Skadovsk will put medical supplies into your personal box about once a day; this will be a total of four items each time, and they include medkits, bandages and antirads.
Diplomat

Diplomat
Freedom, Duty, free stalkers and even bandits have come to recognize your negotiation skills, and think highly of you as a result.
This achievement is awarded if you take the peaceful solutions to both the Hostage mission given out by Grizzly, and the Debts mission offered by Vano. I believe the perk associated with this achievement is a boost in reputation across the board, ie. among bandits, lone stalkers, and both the Freedom and Duty factions.
Hi-Tech Expert

Hi-Tech Expert
Azot can perform a unique tactical helmet modification: an infrared scanner that allows for detection of nearby humans.
Notes
Bring Nitro all three sets of tools to earn this achievement, allowing him to upgrade the Tactical Helmet with the Infrared scanner.
Leader

Leader
Your leadership qualities improve your team's chances of survival.
You receive this achievement if you recruit Sokolov, Strider and Vano for the team when you're leaving Jupiter for Pripyat. All the members of your team accompanying you in the Pripyat Underpass on your way to Pripyat will have improved constitution, greatly increasing their chance of survival during your trials.
Marked by the Zone

Marked by the Zone
You have a chance of surviving an emission without the aid of drugs, provided your health is in order.
Notes
Survive three emissions using anabiotics to earn this achievement. As the description hints, you can survive emissions once you get this achievement; the emission will still drain your health but instead of killing you, you'll just pass out and awake once the emission is over, although with only very little health remaining.
Mutant Hunter

Mutant Hunter
Stalkers think more of you now. In appreciation of your efforts, stalkers have taken to leaving ammo in your personal box at Yanov station.
I believe you earn this achievement by completing Trappers two hunting missions as well as Night hunt. The perk related to this achievement means that stalkers will put ammunition into your personal box at Yanov Station once a day; the type and amount of ammunition is semi-random, but it may include 12x76 slug rounds, 5.45x39 mm AP rounds, 5.56x45 mm AP rounds, and 9x39 mm SP-6 rounds - with typically between 220 and 300 rounds in total per delivery.
One of Ours

One of Ours
Stalkers think more of you now. Stalkers have asked Owl the trader to give you a discount. Beard is now offering you his best prices for artifacts.
Notes
This achievement is earned if you decide to disrupt the bandit raid on the Shevshenko, helping the stalkers, and you bring the Compass artifact to Beard during the Compass mission. This achievement means that Owl will seriously expand his inventory to include weapons such as the Vintar BC, SGI-5k, and the Tunder S14, along with a wider selection of accessories and the Bulat Armored Suit; I don't think he actually gives you a discount though, at least I haven't noticed any drop in his prices.
Pioneer

Pioneer
Various new information allowed Professors Hermann and Ozersky to create a new experimental drug, an anabiotic, in the Zone.
You'll earn this once you have delivered the Altered Wheel to Beard, and the Altered Insulator along with the Anomalous plant to Ozersky. I don't believe there is a perk associated with this achievement; perhaps Hermann may slash his prices, or offer a larger inventory, but I haven't been able to confirm this yet.
Research Assistant

Research Assistant
Given how useful you are, Professor Hermann is now offering you medical supplies and equipment intended exclusively for bunker personnel at cost price. Novikov is so used to you that he only wants you to pay for parts when performing modifications.
Notes
You'll get this achievement once you've completed the Intermittent psy-emissions, Anomaly research, part 1 and part 2, and Anomalous activity missions for Professor Hermann.
Seasoned Stalker

Seasoned Stalker
Your experience allows you to find rare artifacts more often.
You'll receive this achievement once you've been to every anomaly in Zaton and Jupiter; these not only include the named areas such as the Claw Anomaly, but also areas with larger concentrations of anomalies - such as the Quarry and the anomaly filled attic south-west of Jupiter Plant (the same attic with the Tools for Fine Work in it).
Trafficker of Information

Trafficker of Information
Owl the trader has offered you a discount for being his best informer and partner.
Notes
You are given this achievement once you've sold ten pieces of information (such as documents or PDAs) to either Owl, Shulga or Loki. I belive you just need to sell ten in total, to any one of them - so you can sell five to Owl and five to Shulga and will still get the achievement. Owl offers a 15% discount on all items in his inventory once this is achieved.
Weapon Systems Expert

Weapon Systems Expert
Cardan can perform a unique modification, which will allow you to move quickly while wearing an exoskeleton, by installing hydraulic servomotor boosters.
Bring Cardan all three sets of tools to earn this achievement. It allows Cardan to upgrade the Exoskeleton armor with the Addition of hydraulic boosters into drive devices modification allowing you to run while wearing this armor.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is a first-person shootersurvival horror video game developed by Ukrainian video game developer GSC Game World for Microsoft Windows. It is the third game released in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series of video games, following S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, with the game's narrative and events following the former. It was published in the CIS territories by GSC World Publishing in October 2009, before being released by Deep Silver and bitComposer Games in North America and the PAL region in February 2010.

Gameplay[edit]

Scene from the Zone

The game takes place inside the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Exclusion Zone in Ukraine, divided into three areas known as Zaton, Yanov (including Jupiter and Kopachy), and ghost city of Pripyat. Each of these is a large playable area. The majority of Call of Pripyat's gameplay focuses on a combination of both post-apocalyptic horror, as well as tactical role-playing action.[1]

Receiving damage will usually cause bleeding, which the player must take care of with medical supplies. Similarly, unmaintained weapons and some equipment will be damaged from continued use. The condition of an item is displayed as a gauge next to the entry in the player's inventory. If severely damaged or broken, a red HUD icon will denote this.

The Zone features a limited economy, with traders and inhabitants exchanging goods and services for money and items. The game's trading system differs from the previous editions in that weapons and armor that have degraded past a certain point are unable to be sold until they are repaired, at which point the repair costs usually offset the sell price. Traders also sell information on missions and are keen to buy valuable documents.

Bandits are members of the criminal underworld who came to the Zone for different reasons; to make money by selling artifacts, hide from the law or to trade in weapons. The Zone is full of Bandits, ranging from common thugs to serious criminals, most of whom are members of one gang or another. Although the Zone gangs frequently fight amongst themselves, the criminal element still poses a serious problem for normal Stalkers. Bandits are ruthless and generally hostile to anyone not in their gang. Though depicted in Clear Sky as a united, highly territorial faction, the Bandit population in Shadow of Chernobyl consists mainly of roving groups.

Upgrading has three tiers of improvement, with each one requiring a toolkit to allow for respective tier upgrade/modification. Basic tools will allow the player to access the first tier and fine tools will allow access to the second tier. The calibration tool kits are only found in Pripyat and will give access to the last tier. The upgrade system is similar to that of Clear Sky except that the negatives of upgrades are removed. Upgrading a certain element still makes alternative upgrade options unavailable.

Call Of Pripyat Achievements

Various mutant creatures roam the Zone, most of which are hostile to Stalkers and will pursue and attack people who get too close. Artificial intelligence has been overhauled since the previous two games and now offers these creatures advanced and more realistic behavior. New mutants not present in Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky include the Burer, a dwarf-like monster in a hoodie with telekinetic powers; and the Chimera, a Cerberus-like dog with deadly strength.

Several factions reside in the Zone: Loners, Bandits, Mercenaries, Scientists, Zombified Stalkers, Military, Monolith, Duty, and Freedom, the two latter ones being ideologically motivated; control and anarchy, respectively. Despite the Yanov station cease-fire, fights will occasionally break out outside designated Safe Zones. At some certain spots of Zaton and Jupiter groups of Mercenaries, both neutral and hostile to the player, appear. The player's relations to the factions are commonly neutral. However, Zombified Stalkers and Monoliths are hostile towards all characters.

Each day at random times in the game, 'emissions' will occur: The ground will shake, an indication of the Noosphere's damaged structure is unable to hold back any longer and is about to eject lethal amounts of cascading psychic energy. The player will be warned two minutes in advance of an upcoming blowout, and must find a predesignated shelter so as not to be exposed to the psychic fallout. The sky will turn red as the blowout passes through the player's region, killing everything outside of a shelter. The player can, however, survive outside of a shelter during a blowout if he consumes special drugs that temporarily shut down his nervous system, which will cause the player to be immune to the psychic activity, thereby passing out and waking up after the blowout. Blowouts can cause new artifacts to be spawned in the anomaly fields.

Artifacts are found in or around anomalies. Players have to use special detectors to bring artifacts into the visible spectrum, as they are naturally invisible. Every time an Emission occurs, each anomaly field has a chance of creating a new artifact within its wake. These artifacts can be sold, be put into artifact slots that are incorporated into suits that the player can wear and are occasionally given as rewards for services rendered. Primarily, artifacts serve as a means to enhance the player's abilities, dependent on which artifact the player has put into his artifact slot. Most are modular and can be used in conjunction with other artifacts, or multiple artifacts of the same kind can be used to multiply their effects. Most of these artifacts emit harmful radiation, limiting their usage to short periods of time. Radiation-reducing artifacts can be used to counter this effect.

In the free play mode, the player may traverse the zone and finish all of the missions that were not finished. The player is also able to obtain hidden artifacts and unlock achievements.

Plot[edit]

The game takes place soon after the events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. After Strelok disables the Brain Scorcher, multitudes of stalkers rush to the centre of the Zone, hoping to find rare artifacts and other rumoured treasures. The government of Ukraine takes advantage of this gold-rush and launches 'Operation Fairway,' a large scale helicopter special recon mission intended to scout the area by air in preparation for a full-scale military assault on the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Despite thorough preparations, the mission goes horribly wrong, and all five STINGRAY helicopters crash. The player, Major Alexander Degtyarev, an experienced stalker and SBU agent, is sent into the Zone to investigate the crash sites on behalf of the Army.

During the course of his investigation, Degtyarev learns that the helicopters were disabled in the air by powerful shocks of electricity. He also confirms via a helicopter black box that the military survivors have gone to an evacuation point somewhere in Pripyat. However, the city is sealed off due to The Zone's environment. The Major eventually finds an underground passageway to Pripyat and gathers a small team of stalkers to help him traverse this tunnel. After fighting through mutants and the mysterious Monolith faction, they reach the abandoned city and link up with the military survivors from the helicopter crashes.

The player eventually meets the protagonist of Shadow of Chernobyl, Strelok, and learns of the secrets behind the Zone, including how anomalies change position during and after each emission – explaining why the helicopters crashed in the first place.

The game concludes with the survivors, Strelok, and the player evacuating the Zone while being attacked by hordes of enemies. Before boarding the rescue helicopters, the player is given the choice to leave the Zone forever or stay. If the player decides not to leave the Zone, then the game enters into free-play mode. During free-play mode, the player can freely explore areas and finish side-missions, while given the option to leave at any time through NPCs.

The game's ending differs depending on the actions of the player during the game. How the player handles in-game missions, and whether certain NPCs are alive or not by the end of the game directly affect the ending sequence. Despite different endings, one thing that remains the same is the belief that the Zone is expanding, and might actually encompass Russia and the rest of Europe.

Development and release[edit]

Promotion at the Russian Game Developers Conference 2009

Call of Pripyat utilizes the X-Ray Engine 1.6, allowing advanced modern graphical features through the use of DirectX 11 to be fully integrated; one outstanding feature being the inclusion of real-time GPUtessellation. Regions and maps feature photo realistic scenes of the region it is made to represent. There is also extensive support for older versions of DirectX, meaning that Call of Pripyat is also compatible with DirectX 9 through 11. The game is AMD Eyefinity validated.[2]

The game has a Limited Special Edition, released only in Germany, that features an A3-sized map of the Zone, 2 faction patches, a stalker bandanna and a 'stalker' lighter, as well as the metal case in which the game is included. Also another Special Edition, released in the rest of Europe, that includes Art Cards, an A2-sized map of the Zone and the Soundtrack CD, was released. In North American territories, a Collector's Edition has been released, containing a smaller version of the Zone's map, a tech-tree poster and stickers. Call of Pripyat is also available through multiple digital distribution outlets.

Call Of Pripyat Achievements

Call of Pripyat received 'favorable' reviews according to the review aggregation website Metacritic.[3] The game was lauded for its well optimized engine with relatively few bugs and glitches, for example, GameSpot said, 'The most stable S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game yet also happens to be the most atmospheric and compelling.'[7] Other reviews by websites previously opposed to new titles in the series have also given Call of Pripyat positive reviews. While Eurogamer rated the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise's previous installment (Clear Sky) to be a significant disappointment, they gave more positive feedback in their review of the recent addition, saying 'Only the slight sensation of datedness prevents this from scoring higher, and no doubt once the mods start flowing the value for money will get even better. But there's plenty here to keep the faithful feeling extremely optimistic about the prospect of a proper sequel. And there's still nothing out there quite like STALKER.'[5]

Though the reviews of the game's artificial intelligence system were positive, GameSpot did note that the combat AI at times seemed unfairly good, and that 'Human enemies facing away from you have the uncanny ability to notice when you peek out a window behind them and are remarkably good shots in the dead of night, even without night vision scopes equipped.' However, '[D]espite a bit of cheating, Call of Pripyat rarely feels unfair.'[7]

Call of Pripyat was entered in PC Gamer's Top 100 PC games of all time in 2011,[14] ranked in 38th place.
